dive down eyes in the fog
misty gray in a forest of greens and browns
drawing light into crystallized emotion
liquid drenched soul feeling the cedars,
the oaks, the pines. sentinels to reverie
there swimming in reflected happiness
overtaken with sentiment, dizziness
cold shock in the still spring waters
regret creeps up with the past , pulling
mind deep beneath the glistening surface
taunting. “you’ll never touch that
shimmering wall to freedom,” but resolved,
breaking the calm surface and rising to the
cedar’s stare, the surety that I’m not so
lost anymore. knowing I wouldn’t change
a thing. the pine bays to forget all the
imperfections, past. to rise tall and reach
the blue in the sky, fingertips spread wide.
the oak, slipping the weight of the world from
my shoulders when I least expect it.
