Crooked smile
road-worn heart
push the empty
shopping cart,
24-hour
mega store
looking for
the exit door,

Buy a shirt
tooth brush and paste
some canned coffee
I like the taste,
Too much sugar
too much cream
bordering
on the obscene,

At the automatic
check-out tills
I pay with road-worn
dollar bills,
They feel a little
bit like me
traveling from
sea to sea,

In the parking lot
I find my truck
it starts, once more
my good luck,
Plot the back-road
course I’ll take
drinking coffee
to stay awake …
