a sharp turn
down another road
we chew our gum
giggle at roadsigns
drown in headphones
or in I Spy hour upon hour
or read or sleep or
keep eyes on road
at least when driving

and we swoon

as if sharing a virginal moment
a deflowering of interstate
every mile we sink deeper in

but it's not the asphalt that is new
it is us who tread it

as if industrial age
tracks that shoots
hither, schmither
back and forth
was something unique
right here, right now

as if being loved up
by an ancient experience,
centuries of history
for us to plunge into

as if pioneers we are
steering our -99 Subaru
suburban mount
down that well treaded path
where un-boldly before us
commuting bored
mr Average Joe
and Plain Jane
spend an hour
every morning
in status quo breather
before 925 blues
sings them in

as if...

but it is
new, that is
to all, each day
because everything flows
and the universe expands
at the speed of light

try as you might
you will never
stand still

through this
everlasting
road trip
called
life
