There is still some romance
In this world
Outside of Hollywood

It's in the face of the high school boy
Stammering his way
Through the prom invitation
To the girl
Who was "almost" Homecoming Queen

In the flicker of the candle
In a college dorm room
As the couple
Uncorks the white zinfandel
And discuss
Life after graduation

In the footprints
On the moonlit beach
Leading back to Gucci shoes
As they worry whether
He'll be transferred to Seattle
Or whether she's pregnant
And why not

In the clutched hands
Standing at the suburb door
As the daughter in red satin prom dress
Walks the path
To where the all-city quarterback
Holds the rented limo door

It remains
As the couple on the steps
Of the retirement home
On Florida's western shore
Hold each other tight
While the sun meets the sea

Romance surrounds us
And the fools who deny it
Are simply blind
Outside the movie theater
