Running Down the Highway

I am running down the highway,
Intent on doing things my way,
Very sure my soul is at stake,
Losing ground with each step I take.

My friends have warned me to stop,
Sowing the seeds of this bad crop,
I chose freely to take this path,
Tempting fate, tempting God’s just wrath.

Running alone, leaving a trail,
Others will follow, they will wail,
And gnash their teeth because of me,
Burn in Hell, unable to flee.

Can I stop, can I stop running,
Down the middle of life’s highway.
