I’m living on the cusp of humanity and
the devil may care but
death is staring me in the eye;
he says to me: “I’m the cancer in your cigarettes,
I’m lurking as liver failure in your screwdriver. it’s only
a matter of time,” he says. I look back at him and
say only three words: “bring it on.”
he smiles through his hood and brings the scythe
of time down onto my head.
like russian without subtitles in american movies,
I get from him absolutely nothing.

Powerful

The simile "like russian without subtitles in american movies,

I get from him absolutely nothing" clinched it for me.

A powerful piece that touches the reader in unexpected ways.
