In the dark and silence
We teach each other
How to settle our bodily differences
Like nested cups just washed
Resting together warmly
Laughing out at late night TV or one dozen movies
The tiny half-moons of your fingernails
Trace circles on my skin
As my arms form a ring around your waist
The curliques of your long ringlets
Brush against my cheeks
Twist through my shorter curls
Our hair and our bodies tangled
I lift the net of black strands
Away from your skin
To place my lips against your neck

Not sleeping, together our last night
A conversation more necessary than sleep
My name spoken in your voice at dawn
A call into my reverie of folding clothes
To watch the sun burn orange through the spring foiliage
I like the way my name sounds when you say it
An inflection of honesty, a note of possession
You learned before me how to make me fall
Neatly into my need for control
As I attempted pursuit
You proved how at ease with this you are
An almost invisible blush replacing
Your lips on my cheek
I can only ask you not to allow
These lines to become a desecration
