The bay eventually
thins out
to sloughs
and saltflats
appear
under airline window
overviews,

Sturgeon
on bottomrocks and
under boneyards-
these thousand year
swimmers-

start back
across water fields
where lures
like abalone shells
coax the deepest
divers-
faceup
in the current.
