In Kochi Prefecture along the Shimanto Stream,
two monks sat on the shore. They dipped in their wooden bowls
and with tan, rough hands, begin to scrub them clean.

As they washed, Ryuu glanced right and saw a black scorpion.
It struggled in the clear water, its six legs flailing
as it drowned. Ryuu plucked it from the stream and it stung
the flesh of his right palm as he placed it on the shore.
He continued washing but the beast again fell in.
Ryuu set it back on land and it stung him once more.

"Ryuu, why," wondered Tatsuya, "Do you save this creature
when you know that it's nature is to sting?"
"Because," Ryuu replied, "to save it is my nature."

okay, it's interesting, but

it doesn't read like a poem. At least not in my opinion. Still, it's interesting and I like interesting...

and what about

forgiveness? but then, why would a scorpion need to be forgiven for being its true self, :) seems thatthe monk is a slow learner, or

he had no sense of pain, wish I could be that way...
