She who lived on the Isle of Lesbos
She who was the lyrical poetess
She who wrote sensually about women loving women
She, whose words flowed out of her mouth
like the sweetest nectar from a flower
that we drink up with sweet delight with
our mind's mouth
Oh Sappho, I have come upon you by a delicate accident
Oh Sappho, I find that your words ring a sweet ring
like that of a beautiful bell in my tiny ears
Oh Sappho,
Did you know the beauty of what you were writing?
Did you know how much your words would affect
the future generation poets
that would come after you?
Did you know that Plato would kindly
refer to you as the 10th muse?
Do you know in spirit, how much you have affected me?
Well Sappho, I'll tell you one thing,
My dear poetess and lyricist -
Your words have affected my being's heart deeply
They have stirred my soul
They have lifted my spirits -
lifted them to another poetical dimension
Given my soul's mouth more poetry to read
So I ask of you, precious Sappho, to visit me in spirit,
sing your lovely lyrics into my ears
Recite them to me at night when my mind is in need
of a poetical find of your uplifting kind
Let your soul dance in my dreams with your
poetic rhythm of time and rhyme
Oh Sappho, I write this to you,
because after reading your lovely
words of the poetically sensually kind
my soul's hand had no choice but to write
about you with my own poetic voice
For your words moved me like no other's with your
sensual style, making my spirit's heart smile
So dear fair beautiful Sappho...
I do hope my words to you are as beautiful as the flowers
that you wore so delicately in your hair
I do hope my words to you are as sweet as your honey was
I do hope my words to you are as fair as your beauty was
I do hope my words to you do you the justice you deserve
Oh dear fair beautiful sensual Sappho...
Your words have affected me deeply forevermore
