The rain paints the world with a slick, shiny coat
She rushes along, dodging between puddles
A blonde curl is pasted to porcelain complexion
As ocean-blue eyes search the drab street

Casting a hasty glance at her watch
The pounding of her rapid heartbeat
And the frantic gasps of breath
Drown out the street noise surrounding her

Her frenzied steps grow quicker
As she realizes she may not make it in time
She dodges pedestrians who wield umbrellas
Ignoring the damp that clings her garments to her body

The busy intersection finally comes into view
Petal-pink lips part in a gasp as she sees the stranger
His raincoat is wrapped tight as he steps into the crosswalk
Distracted by thoughts of his ailing sister

She tucks her arms and sprints, aware of no one but the man
She does not cry out to warn him of the approaching bus
Foresight tells her that he would only freeze in the headlights
Instead she throws herself on top of him, and they fall

The couple strikes the ground and her forehead hits pavement
Multicolored stars flash brightly in her mind
And her slender body goes limp over his
The drops fall around them as the squeal of brakes fills the air

The blue-gray sky seems reflected in his eyes as he stares upward
His breath exhales explosively as awareness comes
He turns his head to look at her but she is stumbling to her feet
A smile sweetens her cotton candy lips as she gazes at him

With unexpected speed, she is already moving away
A surprised cry echoes through the intersection
But she is already disappearing around a corner
His bewilderment consumes him as he stares after her

The rainfall surges into a downpour and envelops the world
She hurries along, avoiding the puddles
Blonde curls whip against her cheeks as the wind swells
Her sea-blue eyes squint against the conditions

A quarter of an hour until her next destination, she’s only three blocks away
‘Enough time to purchase an umbrella,’ she muses ruefully
Foresight tells her that she will arrive in time
Petal-pink lips smile as her mission continues.
