there once lived a fair maiden named sestina.
by day, she felt her dreams were out of reach,
but in the dusty twilight, each night, she'd surrender;
falling back on her bed and closing hazel eyes,
the weight of her troubles departing with ease
and tumbling into the realms of sweetest delight.

and there she'd frolic and sing with delight!
what new worlds awaited the lovely sestina!
sometimes with strife, sometimes with ease,
sometimes dancing just beyond her reach
tantalizing with blueberry soulful eyes
in a whisper that haunted her days.... "surrender"

intrigued crab legs skittered about this surrender
wary of danger but finding such delight
wondering and watching with bright questioning eyes
until the day he arrives to claim sweet sestina
he may find her dancing, a bit hard to reach
or he may find her dreamy, and smiling with ease

and he, with a firmness, a laughter, an ease
he teaches her quietly to love the surrender
and how to touch but not to reach
and how to flourish within his delight
enhancing each wave of the tidal sestina
with moon pulling stardust deep in her eyes.

touching her chin, "now lower your eyes"
and pride as they cast downward with ease.
"you've done well, my girl, my wandering sestina,
you know where you belong and to whom. surrender.
at my feet your are my delight
and there is nothing beyond our grasp to reach."

around her neck links, his extended reach.
serenity smiling and touching her eyes,
trembling softly with quiet delight
and he, with his comfort, a soft touch to ease.
they laugh and dance in the realm of surrender
whispering forever in the heart of sestina.

and though she is his, he can reach her with ease
on her knees at his feet, her eyes speaking surrender
she remains a puzzling delight, enigmatic sestina.
