seventeen years
underground latched on root
nursing phloem nipple
motionless before the crawl
silent~ what would you expect besides
this mind maddening call
unison feedback call for company?

seventeen year crawl,
I emerge from my own roots,
mouth wide, eyes open
free

Teenage Bugs ?

I never thought of cicadas as teenagers before,

but they do have certain things in common don't they,

Even beyond the repetitive drone of their music?
