Her cat was named
Several Princes I and the Same Name as You

and she moved through the sun-bright forest as though she
were skating across sunny ice
She moved with sad grace, promised shelter and love
but her mosaic aunt took her into the car and whisked her away
and all that was left was
Several Princes I and the Same Name as You

When I took the cat to her I was a musician from a generation
past; my journey on the field carried me past men who stood
like statues and held me immobile while others skimmed
in slow curves to their perfections while I held in my arms
Several Princes I and the Same Name as You

who purred, grew, clawed, grew, preened and grew
And in the vast ballroom of her bustling country
I rode elevators down a thousand feet and more
in columns of marble that lined the cliff, which in my dream
mirrored Nintendo reality
my flying eyes swooped and dived and the girl, natural and
alone in that computer assisted city, came and went sotto voce
and I, lost and unfounded, carried in my failing arms
Several Princes I and the Same Name as You
