At night she dreamed a dream
Of happy days gone by
I'd love to tell you it was me
But that would be a lie

See me as I truly am
And let me call you mine.

At Dawn she danced a dozen songs
Kept perfectly in time
I'd love to say that she was wrong
But cannot be so blind.

Sing me in your native tongue
I promise I won't mind.

At night she follows to your bed
She sits in lamp's soft shine
And in her lap you lay your head
And dream her dreams in rhyme.

If I could hold you in my hands
I'd not be drunk on wine.

But she's the one to whom you turn
And gently sweeps your brow
And she's the one for whom you burn
I need not tell you how.
And though for you I'll always yearn
I cannot have you now.
