Not long ago, you were here
a part of me, only me
each day, til darkness took you
and off to dream of me
you'd go
'til the light of the new day
would bring you back
with greetings....sweet little names
hugs.... endless kisses.
You couldn't wait to hear from me
we shared the best and worst
of all that made us who we are
we shared each day
from beginning to end,
and in those moments
we each found a friend

Those were the days
when we were young
and so damn happy
in our place in the sun
those were the days,
wrapped up in each page
long loving letters.....
those were the days

And now stunned, I look for you
but you're not there
a shadow, a glimpse
a haunting look
greets me each day,
instead of you
no "honey, I'm home"
no "morning creme drop"
no smile, no deep endless kiss
no warm, contented hug

but you know what I miss?
I miss my friend who turned to go
and never bothered to let me know.
