Shifting Sands

byGuiltyPleasure©

We can't go back
for fear of getting lost
again
the landscape changed
eroded by time and the friction
of a million minute irritations.

Impossible to pick up
where we came in
nothing familiar marks the spot
we turned our backs on
no smiles of recognition
our view is incompatable.

Begin again, a new land,
new companions
with original ideas, dear
one day our paths will cross
we’ll nod and smile, salute
across the newly discovered void
in recognition.
