It isn’t a biting razor blade
   will draw your precious blood –
the stalemate arguments you’ve made
   will nip you in the bud.

It isn’t a gun, it isn’t a rope,
   it’s words and looks that kill
your joys and light and every hope,
   but leave you living still.

It’s not the foe that’s after you –
   loved voices that deride
whatever you hold dear and true
   will make you die inside.

A Sad Truth
