I see the soldier on the ground
Lying lifeless at my feet
Dying for a new beginning
His heart fights for its final beat
And as I kneel down by his side
The patch of earth where he came to rest
I hold him softly in my arms
And rest his head upon my breast
This lonely face I have never seen
Yet this boy's face could be my son
His mothers' grief is borne in me
His death could never be undone
I know not what his fight was for
Those above made him decide
To fight for cause we all believe
If not for him we would have died
This boy shall not die alone
I feel his family by my side
All he loves are knelt with me
We share the grief, the tears, the pride
We look into his fading eyes
Go to sleep my little one
Rocking gently like a babe
Fight no more your time has come

Dedicated to Curt… Veteran, Purple Heart, Navy Cross and Bronze Star. To all those who fought with him and continue to do so to this day. God Bless.
I heard an Angel singing
When the day was springing,
"Mercy, Pity, Peace
Is the world's release."
(William Blake)
Death! that struck when I was most confiding
In my certain faith of joy to be -
Strike again, Time's withered branch dividing
From the fresh root of Eternity!.
(Emily Jane Bronte)
To quote but two.
I had forgotten that LIT's critics were far more prophetic than the masters. Or should that be pathetic?
I do not doubt the sincerity of the emotion but this is Hallmark Poetry.Oleaginous sentimentality.
You know I love it, Lorriane, and as always, it makes me cry
Love, Curt
