Losing score in Solitaire
Imagining that you're with me there,
Placing a finger
Touching the aching skin,
Remembering how once, you were so keen.

I place reds on blacks,
Passionate death
Upon the backs
Of Kings, Queens and Jacks.

You were my prince when we met,
My King when all our love was spent.
And I, now a Queen without a reign,
Loose, hoping we will meet again.

Sorting out the numbers
from high to low,
Recalling your final "Hello."
No goodbye has ever been so painful
No pain has ever been so good
By sheer solitude.

I feel the space with tremblings hands,
Falsley exciting the anticipating body
Even though it's nobody.
I am the master, baiting
The lady, in waiting.

I have no place among your deck of cards,
Playing a lonely midnight solitaire.
Orphaned, I find comfort in myself
When you're not there.
