Eyes, dark, sing meadow lark- Pipe up a tune for my Love's broken heart.
My love he's a fair boy, who lives by a spring, out in the village, he likes to play king.
When one day a crual man, he came down to that spring, and rough and sickening he began to sing;
"None is like me, as strong or as keen, and of these fair maidens, I will have my Queen!"
And gesturing towards me he bent on one knee, declaring me his, saying I'd not be free.
And he took me, and locked me, in his harem, never to feel the grass again.
My love he's a fair boy, he used to play king, but I shall never, be his again.
So pipe up, a merry tune, sweet meadow lark, song of my heart, sing 'til it's dark.

Note from the Author

This song has kind of a swinging melody, starting low, pausing, going higher, pausing, and so on before dropping back down for the next verse.

Originally to be titled this more fitting name, "Lament of the Stolen Maiden."

Thanks for reading, this is only my second published poem, so more and better too come!
