Starr light, Starr bright
I remember your arrival at my door that night
Denim jacket, tight tee, heels and mini-skirt
Your eye swollen and bleeding, you obviously hurt.
A motorcycle accident you said had caused this
I wrapped you in my arms
And gently gave you a kiss
Not betraying my alarm
Your boyfriend the drug dealer had beat you again
You wouldn’t admit it
Say that he did it
It broke my heart that you thought you deserved it.
So I comforted you
Cleaned the blood, tended your wounds
Held you and stroked you as we lay in my room
I took off work the next few days
We ate lunch in the park
Strolled the city streets laughing
You sparkled and healed
The time passed in a haze
I wrote you poems of your beauty
How you filled me with joy
How you deserved better
Than being beat by that boy
You smiled and agreed and gave me a squeeze
Caressed and aroused me
Held me with your knees
As our bodies collided with passion
Love soft and tender
Lust hard and fast
Surrendering to the moment
To forget the past
We gave ourselves to each other
Starr light, Starr bright
I shall always treasure
the memory of that night
and grieve for the next morning
as you left waving
giving me no warning
I would never see you again
