My body turns in sweat-soaked sheets
While my mind is tormented
By nightmarish thoughts the ghost of 3 a.m brings
While shadows dance, the monsters lurk
Under the edge of the quilt that trails on the floor
Images flash on the back of my lids,
As I close my eyes tight,
Three hours till dawn.
I need to get up, but I lie here worrying
About everything and nothing
All the time the bathroom tap drips
Echoing louder and louder
Reminding me that I’ve needed
To pee for the last hour.
