sitting around a fire
stirring the pot
stranger walks up and asks
"what's for dinner?"

"Stone soup,"
continuing to stir
takes a sip and smiles
"needs a little something?"

stranger pulls out a carrot
offers it, sliced and diced
added to the pot
stranger sprinkles salt in the pot
"I like a little salt."

another stranger walks up
"whatch'a cooking?"
stirring the pot
adjusting the flame

"Stone soup,"

"It any good,"

"Needs a little something,"

The stranger pulls out
a can of corn, offers it,
it's opened and added to the pot
stirred and stirred
as howdy-dos are done

"What are ya'll cooking over here?'
a stranger walks up and asked

"Stone soup. It's all we got."
The newest stranger
reaches in a bag
and pulls out a can of beans
and an onion
sliced, diced, the can is opened
then added to the soup

stirring the pot
saying "howdy,"
and "how are ya?"
as the bowls get passed around

the four strangers
gulp their meal down
smiles all around
"What was in that? It was good!"

"Onion, corn, beans and a carrot."

"What's it called?"

"Stone soup!"
