Click hereLoreena McKennitt's sung version of the poem is enchanting, with a haunting melody that draws one into the story of Alfred Lord Tennyson's famous poem "The Lady of Shalott." A tragic tale of unrequited love. It is said that Elaine of Astolat and Sir Lancelot (of Arthurian legend) are the inspiration for the famous poem. This is my interpretation of the poem, but it was Loreena's voice, once again, that inspired me.

Story weaver
curse'd dreamer;
though her beauty
unmatched by any woman
she still cannot
turn his heart
towards her
forever
the other is
on his mind
the wife
of his king
the illicit affair
she knows the truth
for she sees it
through the threads
of her very being
and so she
weaves
from twilight to midnight
to dawn's early light
weaving other people's stories
dreaming other people's love
this her only companion
as her fingers
work nimbly
with heart numb
she knows her destiny
her very life
lies with the man
in the enchanted
looking glass
she cares not
she knows the curse
she knows that
to look upon
his very face
means death
her gaze moves
beyond her reflection
to the world
alive outside
she beholds his
handsome face
a beautiful end
to a tragic life
she welcomes the
end to her
story
