I saw her just sitting there,
all alone on the bench in the park.
I approached her cautiously,
it was after all, nearing dark.

Are You alright I asked, felling concern
Oh, you startled me, Yes, I'me fine thank you.
I was enjoying the peace, she said,
that this time of day brings.
For it's the only time I have to myself,
to think private thought and about silly things.

Sit, please, gesturing me near,
Tell, me asked, what are you doing here.
I explained I was in town for an appointment the next day,
Just thought I'd kill some time before then,
as I didn't have any place to stay.

We talked there for hours.
An Instant connection between the two of us
though it seemed a short time,
Then suddenly, she exclaimed, damn I missed my bus.

It's My fault you missed it, I told her,
as I pulled out my phone.
let me call you a cab,
to come and take you home.

No, wait, and stayed my arm with a soft hand,
not yet, she said, then asked, "Want some pie?"
"Why not", I replied, "I could use a bite."
Then as one we rose and walked into the night.

I drove her in my truck,
to a nearby neighborhood diner.
"This is my other get away spot
and the home made pie couldn't be finer."

We ordered, ate, talk some more,
Of who we were, and what lives we led,
as if catching up, as old friends might,
soon laughing, finishing the the others thought,
like we possessed second sight.

Finally, she gazed to me,
I was enraptured with her deep blue eyes,
Do you want to spend the night with me
Sultry, yet softly in a voice, she tried to disguise.

I clearly heard her say it,
amongst background noise.
But scarcely could I believe it,
had it been some type of scam, a ploy.

But then, she took my hand in hers,
I studied he face for clues,
Saw an earnestness in her face
I knew then , It wasn't a ruse.

After a night of bliss together, I woke alone.
I knew my life wold never be same,
And my thoughts return to night often and remembering
Of our sojourn of passion and
the woman who had never said,
ever told me her name.
