Suddenly naked in the garden
Waking, as from a blissful dream,
Sun too bright against my new eyes,
Stirring my legs in the living grass.
I watch you, still sleeping like a child,
Lying spent, besides me. It suits you.
I watch the play of dappled shade on your chest,
Counting your ribs as you breathe; all there.
The core, discarded, already turning brown,
The fruit was sweet as we shared it;
I liked the juice from your chin,
Still tasting its sour ripeness on my tongue.
Looking up into your eyes watching mine,
My chest and cheeks flush pink,
Your eyes see me suddenly naked,
Your eyes are as old as His.
