Sweet breeze through open window
Carries the crickets' song
A welcome to the moon.
The birds settle in the trees
one last squabble for the best night perch.

Moths circle the light,
Beetles seeking entrance
Bounce off the window screens
High pitched squeak of the bats
coming in for an easy meal.

Breeze softens to a murmur
A mopoke calls his two-note tune
A distant fox annoys the dogs
Ripples on the pool of night
fade in the cooling air.
