Softly tread my feelings
Where you are concerned.
You and I each have lives
And a past that can not be unlearned.

Years divide all that might be said.
Time uncounted has passed,
The minutes noted but yet have fled.
I would have known you, across the gulf so vast …

Here I sit as the dawn rises soon,
Thinking of you and thy sweet thought.
I know that you feel for me
Perhaps what you ought naught.

My feelings for you are so clear and yet
They are shaded by mist and romance, hope and fear.
I think of you oft, it is tinged with regret …
How could I ever think to bring you so near?

I am what I am, whatever that is.
I am only myself, with all of my flaws.
I don’t have the answers, I wish that I did.
To reconcile my heart, and society’s laws.
