Psychiatric wards are liminal spaces
like purgatory or perhaps a meeting
ground for selves in transit. I got
into a fight once [there] with a woman
who played piano like a hobo angel. She
just didn't care too much for my cards.
We fought like beasts in a library
next to her instrument. The Jack of Hearts
and Ace of Spades flew apart and landed
on either side of the room. An elevated
space. A man came out of the closet. I
was fine.

I'm going to puzzle this one thru some more

The title caught me and the lines "...like purgatory or perhaps a meeting ground for selves in transit" are a terrific description. But I need to work it a bit more to understand what you are saying.
