Abstract words dressed up in black and white smile back at you
from distant perches in the latest night.
Are thoughts strung from tree to tree,
from leaf to leaf,
or from what we are to what we should be?
Is this what you expected of me?
I'm still deciding what I want to believe.
If we hurt just like we say we do,
so many losses we have gained.
Are our tears for what we say they are?
Or do our fears preside only to mask our pain?
