Tandem High Wire Act

Each began at their own end, unable to see the middle
Of the tight and precarious wire that would hold the weight of their dreams.

One step – tenuous - shaky and then another, until fear turned to
Exhilaration, and their bodies buzzed with a forbidden drug.

They moved closer, feeling through the wire to their feet each others trembling
Not from danger but the anticipation of their first touch.

When that moment came, toes met, fingers twined,
and with the impulse of children, they
