Mother grackle
city dweller
picking popcorn
from the sidewalk.
Dives the dumpsters
while I wait for
backseat fledglings
to spill slurpees
on my vinyl.
Mother grackle
comes to feast on
insect roadkill
from my front grill:
splattered beetles
mangled monarchs
‘squitos plastered
on the window.
Nobel paucar
iridescent
feathers shine in
Texas sun-rays.
"Away! Away!
Loco cuervo!
Keep your guano
off my fender!"
Wise bird, agile
legend says some
fed your brains to
make kids smarter?
Raucous jackdaw
stop that chatter,
take your road kill
shopper droppings
home to nest of
plastic straws.
I’ll speed down the
Mopac parkway,
aim for fat ones
for your supper.
Meet me Sunday,
Central Market
splurge organic
scraps this time.
