I neatly unraveled, trimmed, and tied off
All the threads that bound your soul and mine.

I stitched a bright, starched, and stiff (safe) border around my heart.
Folded up all my colors and patterns and tucked them safely away.

But sometimes days like today happen.
I snag myself in forgotten memories
I tangle in pieces of me, pieces of you
Threads of us- snares of what could never be and should have never been.

I look in the mirror, hollow eyes filled with the tattered mess I've become.
All my attempts to cut you out have left me
In shreds.
