pained introductions
laying out of battle map,
soft pillowed rack

all sense of male self
layed out on the cold stone table,
belly asks questions

buzz of the needle
sings the first gory onslaught:
"how can I endure?"

seeing valor's cross
demons fear and pain retreat
to stoic near sleep

more than not unseen
a bright blue grateful dead bear
joins me for this life
