in spite of the proper place of things
behind a long forgotten door
shadows of an image
maintained by faith
cling to the hollows
of certainty
by tenuous webbings

peering into that disorienting dark
illumination behind
nothing is discernible, shadows
monsters all
blind
until the eyes discover new depth

and without thought
or hesitation
reach into that darkness
pull out the prize
for in light there is knowledge
in dark there is wisdom

Your cheek lies smooth
quiet and resolute
upon my open palm
