Truth be told
I have played both sides of the game
I don’t mind telling you now
As I sit this dance out and watch others
Take their chances taking lovers

I was the scorned and wronged
Dressed and posed in victim sheets
She left me for him
Leaving little bits of love around
For me to clean up and throw away
In a house left empty
While I cried to the moon
Sitting on the roof to the cold night
A broken half built nest

I was the third man
Wrapped in dangerous mystery
How I must have filled
Someone else’s head
Of dark thoughts of vengance
While I held his heart
In my hands
I could have said
It was between him and her
But I was there as well

I was the cheat
Cloaked to hide my eyes
Avoiding direct contact
Sneaking out the backdoor
In a farce of exits and entrances
For getting the big laughs
Dying inside
Rather than to tell the truth
And being a human being

If you read the program
You can see my clever bio
Of all the plays I’ve played
Starcrossed comedy and tragedy
Laid out in lines of arguments
Like crossword puzzles
With too few clues
After so much improvisation
I weary wonder about it all
Whether it really worth it
This is what I think
As I lead the curtain call
