You asked why I cried tonight,
Your body on mine, but
My mind a hundred miles away.
Concealed in the room
Where I hid today,
Away from the windows,
The pain in my heart pulsing
The sweet refrain of shame.

You asked why I cried tonight,
Your body on mine,
In your wife's bed
On her pillow
In her home
Knowing her life is not mine.

You asked why I cried tonight,
Your body on mine,
Seeing you smile in the dim light
Feeling your loving touch.

Trembling, feeling the heat
Of your love
Rising in my body,
Feeling the emptiness
Sink in my soul.

Both deep, and rich, and hot,
Swirling around me as I stand
At the center
Feeling it break free inside me
The shame of love, its joy
Fighting for control of my life.
A fight to the death.

You asked why I cried, as I
Turned my head slowly away.

You asked.
