At Desire’s urging, the woman takes leave of her senses and heads for his lair,
Braving high altitudes and oxygen deprivation only to find
Capricious clouds that shift and hiss like ominous intuition.
Each, shallow breath forms carnal images in frigid air.
Every heartbeat is a knell -- an asphyxiating toll on her mind.
The impotent sun blinks at the heroine’s conquered affection.
At the apex of his deception, the man whispers oxytocic platitudes.
His shoulders are tempting mountains stretching just beyond her grasp,
Their craggy edges cloaked in misty, mossy-smooth illusion,
Where miles above bitter reason and the acuity of solitude,
Tensile strength of faulty memory prompts lust’s cable to snap.
Losing her grip, the woman floats into the embrace of self-preservation.
