My heart has never run like a faucet,
     turned off and on again
     on my demand,
Or a stream diverted on a whim,
     eroding shores with passing seasons.

Its love is an unchecked beacon
at the center of my chest,
Blowing out the lenses
Spraying sparks into your shadows
     and clarity to our darkness.

It doesn't say yes to you now
     and no later.
It doesn't say you've hurt me
     and now I feel nothing.
It doesn't say goodbye.

I have my head for that.

My heart says I love you
now then always

With clarity it says remember.
It says be here now.
It says we will, as we do.

But in its confusion, it says
Rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb.
