"good evening america theres good news tonight"
"hello america and all the ships at sea"
sy olivers "oh yes theres good blues tonight
no gate thats late will rate the latest lick"
and new orleans blues shouter roy brown
"well I heard the news theres good rockin' tonight"
and from houston blows in wild bill moore
wielding a saxophone wild as a texas tornado
honking bopping deconstructing and singing
"we gonna rock we gonna roll all night long."

while jimmy preston is busy rocking the joint
john lee hooker plugs in his electric guitar
and back stomps his way to "boogie chillen"
"rollin' and tumblin' " with muddy waters and
fats domino falsetto and pounding fat man piano
lightnin' hopkins jim witherspoon peewee clayton
we got hank snow and "im moving on" and
hardrock gunters "birmingham bounce" and
arkie shibley and his "hot rod race" country boogies
and then sun records sam phillips cuts "rocket 88."

it takes a world war to integrate our society
(and we still refuse to share our water fountains)
but anyone in america who is interested is free
to take a sip from the now simmering stew
overflowing with a flavor you can savor
its the fifties baby and its a teenage thing
and they step right up and they begin to eat
and they come away with a new common beat
its raw and ready like rhythm and blues
puts a smile on your face and spreads like the news.

out of the folk and blues and rag and swing
the jazz and country and hillbilly stew it comes
johnny otis big mama thornton and hound dog mania
a dash of the dominoes and their sixty minute man
some of johnny ray with the four lads and "cry"
bill haley goes wild and rocks around the clock and
then elvis changes everything with "that's all right"…
ray charles chuck berry little richard jerry lee
buddy holly bo diddley and carl perkins les paul
this babys born the stews on and its time to eat.
