There’s a blackbird
Out back
Hangin’ on the wind
She’s a jukebox
With feathers
She’s a rambler
She’s a coal smoke cloud
A drifter on the atmosphere
She’s a melody machine
In sunny weather
There’s a blackbird
Out back
Swimmin’ in the rain
She’s a dark night
With feathers
She’s a lover
She’s a peppercorn
A tar black spot of loveliness
She’s a flying mystery
I’ll watch forever
A belated Welcome to Lit. Thanks for the heads-up on this being lyrics. It explains a lot. Most folk operate under the mistaken assumption that poetry and lyrics are the same. They may at times be close but most times lyrics sound horrid as poems. This offering is pretty good as a poem (which is unusual for lyrics). With a little tweaking, you could turn this into a really fine poem (but then it probably wouldn't work as lyrics). Again, Welcome!
