The blackbird flew
Wings wide
Over the sands
And dirt
And limbs of tree
That kept it bound

It would fly high
Closer then
Moving in spirals
To the heavens
And yet held back
By that which
Binds us all
To Earth

Feathers dark
And winds of cold
Driving us ever
Onwards
Upwards
To the edge of death
Life seems distant
And so remote

Fly on, my bird friend
Fly on.

The last two lines make for a nice ending. :)
