the wall is thick and tall
around her heart
built from broken pieces...
pieces as rough and sharp as
glass shattered over and over again

she can feel it deep in
her mind whenever she
closes her eyes...tugging
at the seams of her soul
slowly unraveling her sanity

never did she think all of
this would wash over her...
not again...she had buried
it deep like a dead body that
one tries to conceal

but it broke through, dug
its way out of the proverbial
dirt. climbing to the surface, breaking
on her like a wave.  hungry, angry...ready
to feed on her again

peering over her shoulder
whenever she looks at her
reflection. whispering all the same
lies in her ears...softly, triumphantly,
needling its way back in...like a
fat worm, heading for the core

she feels herself slumping, falling
back.  opening wide, her muscles
relaxing.  she won't fight it this time.
her strength-like the bottom-
has fallen out
