Never thought it would come to this
When all those years had passed me by,
These battered dreams which lie in ruin
Beneath an opalescent sky
Are all I have from what is past,
The memories of those futile hopes,
And now my time is closing fast
And all my fancies up in smoke.
I touched my love but oh-so-brief
And now from me she's far away;
I did not beg, for even that
Would not have made her think to stay.
The passion sparked twixt us in kind:
It lit my soul and heart with fire
And burned her image in my mind,
My love for her will never tire;
And yet, I fear my faith will wane
Away with time, and so to die;
This hope which kindled fire in me
And dreams of love which passed me by.

Sad yet powerful

This poem is quite beautiful, it brings a bit of sadness to my heart. Remembering lost loves. But the best poems are written with a broken heart, eh? That's the power of it.
