The Captain and the Lighthouse

The Captain slowly climbed the steps
Of the long desired lighthouse
As the storm outside continued
To call his name and grouse

Inside warmth and light
Outside dark and cold
Both pulled at tugged his heart
The unknown new and long known old

Determination strengthened him
And the Captain pushed on higher
At last he reached the watch room
The love in his heart caught fire

The shadow moved toward him
Beginning to take shape
Her smile beamed, her arms opened wide
Encircling him in the warmth of her cape

The woman held him tight
Crying softly against his chest
Grateful to be in his arms
The place she loved the best

For a time the sea still beckoned him
Threatening to pull him away
But as the hours, days, years passed by
It was easier to stay

The peace, the warmth, the love he found
In the lighthouse and the arms
Of the one whose light had helped find
Safe passage through the storms intended harms.
