The Cat and Mouse War

I’m the mouse
He told me so
So who am I to disagree?

What does the cat do to the mouse?
He asked me so very quietly

Plays with it
I reply
Taunts
I recognise

Very good he whispered in my ear

The cat watches and stalks its prey
He hunt’s it down because it’s his game

He teases and plays with the mouse
Wrestles and bites and leaves his mark
Till the mouse lays there deathly still in the dark

What then he asks of the cat?

The cat grows tired
The cat gets bored
The mouse still twitching occasionally on the floor

The cat looks around
Licking a paw
Grooming oneself
What else is seen crawling these floors?

The mouse forgotten
As it slinks away
To survive yet another day

Agreeable silence meets his ears
I am the mouse he accuses of me

So who is the victor in this cat and mouse war?
Tis not I who hides in a hole in the wall

I am the mouse
Cause He told me so
So who am I to disagree?

Meowwwwww
I lick at a paw
Always searching these hallowed halls
