The Child Inside

You opened my eyes
Taught me to see
The child inside
Hiding quietly

Taught her to laugh
Taught her to play
You gave me her hand
To showed her the way

Opening this door
To a brand new world
Dreams to be found
Hope sought out
All with in my mind
Searching to see

The endless possibilities
Only imagination can define
Nothing is required
Only limitation
Knowing what is desired

Hearing your voice
You simply said
Once you know
Once you see
It can be yours
All for the wanting
All for the taking
Just make it be

Make your own
Hold it true
Love it as
You should love you

That’s right
Love yourself
With all your heart
Search your soul

See that little girl
The one you ignored
For way too long
The one you let cry all alone

Hold her tight
Touch her face
See her beauty
See her grace

Know her innocence
Know her pain
Show her love
Ask if she can forgive

Forgive you
For all the times
You put her down
Made her hide

You helped me to see her
But then I had to do the rest
See if I could handle this test

I had to be the one
To embrace that little girl
Take her in my heart
To a place that she could see
Just how beautiful she is
That she’s part of me

I held out my hand
Looked into her eyes
Smile with kindness and said it’s time
I want you to know
What you mean to me
That I love you and I can see

I see your beauty
I see your love
I see the hurt
I see the pain
I see your dreams, hopes, and desires

She is no longer hidden away
But cherished in a very special place
She is safe in my arms
Safe in my heart

In a part of my youth
Innocence eternal
Where dreams are possible
Hope still exists
There she will stay
Protected by love and tenderness
