The Dance Eternal
1/20/11

The winter snow lies deep on the land, filled with the love
Of all who lie under its blanket of silence, resting, like the Earth.
And more snow is on the way, as the clouds darken to lead grey.
Unlike the storm king, this will be a hushed, silent snow fall,
No announcement, this one will steal in like a thief in the night.

Orion and his companion, absent tonight as the clouds hide the heavens.
The snow starts and stops in fits and then becomes a veil of lacy white.
Which catches and reflects the fire light, that burns by the stout evergreen tree,
As it bows its broad green shoulders to wear once again, winters white coat,
In envy the Oak and Rowan look on silent, limbs withered, cold and bare.

The night deepens as the snow continues to fall mounting into soft mounds,
While the Norse gods look down in silent approval, the landscape changes.
In subtle ways the Earth responds, adapts and changes to fit the still mood,
Quiet now in winter's slumber she sleeps, yet signs point to the awakening.
The Solstice has passed and the sun climbs higher in the sky, every day.

The cycle of life...the dance eternal, will start anew in the spring of the year.
