The Door

You have your back to me now
the dark thoughts of a guilty conscience
obscured behind eyes that feign sleep
It seems an age ago that you loved me
that you crushed me in your arms
blanketed me in your kisses
and spoke secrets to my soul
It seems a distant memory
as we lay here locked together
but worlds apart
Perhaps you realized I was not her
and maybe now you're sorry
that you lied so well to both of us
Perhaps you understand what we've done
and you long to take those stolen moments back
and wipe away the sin
Turning to me you force a smile
and remind me of the time
and slip on your clothes
as your body finds the door
your heart already left through.

The Door

The final lines rescue the poem from the midden of banality,

nicely put.
